First Stop Pre-School can be found within the grounds of Trimley St. Mary Primary School. The Pre-School has been open since 1982 operating originally in a converted double decker bus, moving into the current building in 1986.  The setting has its own secure enclosed garden and a large undercover canopy area which provides the children with outdoor play-based learning opportunities whatever the weather.  The building offers wheelchair friendly access and toilet facilities.

We are open during term time Monday to Friday 8.45am-11.45am and 12.20pm-3.20pm and have a maximum of 25 children per session.  We provide drinks and a healthy snack mid-morning and afternoon.

All our staff members are highly qualified, dedicated and experienced in their roles. All staff regularly undergo training in first aid and safeguarding.  We have a trained SENCo who holds an Elkan speech and language qualification. We offer a warm welcoming environment to all and support our parents and children alike in what, for many, is their first transition into a setting.

The Pre-School is managed by a committee elected by and from the parent/carers, meaning that major decision making is in the hands of those who use the group.  There is an independent group of Trustees overseeing the general well being of the pre-school.

We welcome all children from all backgrounds regardless of socio economic status, religion or culture. We welcome and encourage parent/carer involvement in various ways; for instance, through a rota where parents/carers are welcome to participate in whole sessions with their children. We engage in fundraising whenever the need arises, and parents are actively involved in this. First Stop enters a float in the annual village carnival; this is organised by a committee of parents; planning and bringing their ideas together.
